Weeks died on September 21, 2020. Secretary of State Steve Simon announced votes for this office would not be counted in the general election and instead a special election would be held on February 9, 2021, requiring the seat to be vacant as of January 3, 2021. Rep. Craig filed a lawsuit to count the votes in the general election and was victorious.
