Associate Justice Anderson was reelected to a fourth term. Anderson retired on May 31, 2013 having reached the mandatory retirement age of 70. Governor Mark Dayton appointed David Lillehaug to fill the vacancy on June 3, 2013. Lillehaug was an attorney from Minneapolis, former U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota (1994-1998), and DFL candidate for Attorney General in 1998.
Tingelstad was an attorney from Bemidji, child-support magistrate for the Ninth Judicial District, former administrative law judge, former Assistant Beltrami County Attorney, and nominee for Associate Justice of the Supreme Court in 2004, 2010, and 2012.
