Auditor Dutcher was reelected to a second term. Dutcher switched her partisan affiliation to the DFL on January 17, 2000.

The Minnesota Taxpayers Party received major party status in the state with its nominee receiving at least five percent of the vote in a statewide race and at least one vote in each county.

Larson was a resident of Dassel, Executive Director of the Minnesota Association of Small Cities, DFL nominee for HD 20A in 1992, DFL nominee for Lieutenant Governor in 1994, and DFL nominee for HD 18A in 2012.

Becker was a resident of St. Cloud and 7th CD Chairwoman of the Minnesota Taxpayers Party.

Odden was a civil engineer from Columbia Heights, Libertarian nominee for SD 62 in 1996, the 3rd CD in 2000, and Secretary of State in 2014.

Peschek was a resident of St. Paul and political science professor at Hamline University.
