Special election to the fill the vacancy due to the resignation of Independent-Republican Representative Kathleen Blatz on January 24, 1994 after being appointed Hennepin County District Court Judge. Knight was a small business owner from Bloomington. Spies was a former member of the Bloomington City Council. Myers, a resident of Bloomington and Independence Party Vice Chairman, was the Independence Party's first state legislative candidate.
