Special election to the fill the vacancy due to the resignation of DFL Representative Wallace Sparby on May 18, 1993 after being appointed Director of the state Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Finseth was manager of the Marshall County Soil and Conservation District and resident of Angus. Swanson was a radio station general manager from Thief River Falls.
