Like his former colleague Fallon Kelly (in the 1978 cycle) Associate Justice Lawrence Yetka petitioned to Governor Arne Carlson extend his term until October 1994 in order to qualify him for maximum pension benefits (without having to run for reelection). Governor Carlson issued an executive order permitting this on July 6, 1992 but assistant Attorney General Alan Page successfully brought a lawsuit that overturned the executive order. Yetka decided not to run for reelection.

Page was an attorney from Minneapolis, assistant Attorney General (1987-1993), and former professiornal football player (1967-1981).

Johnson was an attorney from St. Paul, criminal prosecutory in the Hennepin County Attorney's office, and GOP nominee for Attorney General in 1990.

Bearse was a resident of Coon Rapids, Tenth Judicial District Judge since 1983, and former assistant Anoka County Attorney (1972-1974).
