Dayton was a resident of Minneapolis, DFL nominee for U.S. Senate in 1982, former state Commissioner of Department of Economic Development (1983-1986), and state Commissioner of Department of Energy and Economic Development (1978). Dayton was later a DFL candidate for governor in 1998, U.S. Senator (2001-2007), and Governor (2011-2019).
Hanson was a resident of Ottertail and a former felon convicted of felony theft and theft by swindle in 1978. Hanson ran as an Independent-Republican for HD 12A in 1984 and was a DFL candidate for Auditor in 1986, for the 7th CD in 1988, for HD 12A in 1992, and for HD 10B in 2008.
Franson was a real estate appraiser from Minneapolis, former Minneapolis City Council member (1963-1965), and perennial candidate.
Holstad was a resident of White Bear Lake, DFL nominee for HD 49B in 1980, and DFL nominee for HD 51B in 2000.
Allers was a business representative from Richfield, DFL candidate for SD 37 in 1980, and DFL candidate for Treasurer in 1982.
Mesaros was a computer operator from Minneapolis, DFL candidate for the 5th CD in 1986, DFL candidate for HD 60A in 1988, and independent candidate for the 5th CD in 1992.
