Special election to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of DFL Senator Darril Wegscheid announced on June 28, 1988 and effective January 1, 1989. Pariseau was a former aide to U.S. Senator Rudy Boschwitz from Farmington. Savanick was an Apple Valley Councilwoman.
