Dooley was a law school student from Lake Elmo and the party-endorsed candidate.
Hanson was a resident of Ottertail and a former felon convicted of felony theft and theft by swindle in 1978. Hanson ran as an Independent-Republican for HD 12A in 1984 and was a DFL candidate for the 7th CD in 1988, for Auditor again in 1990, for HD 12A in 1992, and for HD 10B in 2008.
Dunlop was a resident of St. Paul, deputy state treasurer, former information officer in the state Auditor's office, DFL candidate for Treasurer in 1994, and Reform nominee for Treasurer in 1998.
