Hatfield was a resident of Roseville, former state Tax Commissioner, and Commissioner of Administration.
Wefald was a resident of St. Peter, history instructor at Gustavus Adolphus College, DFL nominee for the 2nd CD in 1968, grandson of Farmer-Labor Party founder and U.S. Representative Knud Wefald, and nephew of former state Senator Magnus Wefald.
Smith was a resident of Minneapolis and executive secretary of the Minnesota Communist Party. Smith was nominated by petition.
