Chief Justice Loring was renominated in his campaign for a fifth term.

Peterson was an attorney from St. Louis Park, former four-term state Representative (HD 44, 1939-1947), and DFL candidate for Attorney General in 1956.

Larson was an attorney from Minneapolis. He was the law partner of DFL Attorney General nominee Orville Freeman and Republican Railroad and Warehouse Commission Chairman Leonard Lindquist.
