Associate Justice Christianson was appointed to the Court on May 15, 1950 by Governor Luther Youngdahl to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Associate Justice Harry Peterson on May 11, 1950 to run for the DFL nomination for governor. Christianson was an attorney from St. Paul and son of former state Representative, Governor, and U.S. Representative, Theodore Christianson, Sr. Christianson died in office on September 19, 1955. Governor Orville Freeman appointed William P. Murphy to fill the vacancy on September 24, 1955. Murphy was an attorney from Duluth and former Assistant U.S. Attorney (1939-1951).
Nolan was an attorney from Duluth, sitting Eleventh Judicial District Judge since 1937, and former state Representative (HD 61, 1929-1931, 1933-1937).
