Marsh was a pharmacist from St. Paul. He was later nominated to the office by the DFL in 1952 and 1954.
Omtvedt was a manufacturer of cement products from Belview and a former Farmer-Labor state executive committee member. He was endorsed by the Progressive (Henry Wallace) wing of the DFL.
