Special primary election to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Senator Henry A. Larson on March 12, 1948. Johnson was a state Representative from Preston. Lee, a resident of Mabel, withdrew from the race so Meighen, a resident of Preston, took his place on the general election ballot.
