Gallagher was an attorney from Waseca and former member of the Waseca School Board. He was the younger brother of former Chief Justice Henry Gallagher.

Christianson was appointed to the Court by Governor Edward Thye on March 26, 1946 after Associate Justice Luther Youngdahl resigned on March 15, 1946 to run for governor. Christianson was a Red Wing City Attorney.

Associate Justice Olson was renominated in his campaign for a fourth term.
