Treasurer Schmahl was reelected to an eighth nonconsecutive term.
Johnson was an accountant from St. Paul. He was the Farmer-Labor candidate for Lieutenant Governor in 1940, a DFL candidate for Lieutenant Governor in 1944, for Clerk of the Supreme Court in 1954, and for Secretary of State in 1970.
Fitzgerald was a resident of Minneapolis, Democratic nominee for Treasurer in 1940, and DFL candidate for Treasurer in 1950.
