Special election caused by the vacancy following the death of Senator Claude H. MacKenzie on April 11, 1936. Swenson was endorsed by the Republican and Democratic parties. Wiick was a farmer from Bernadoite Township who had been a candidate for representative this cycle. He was endorsed by the Farmer-Labor Party.
