This was an open seat race as Governor Christianson decided to run for U.S. Senate.
Chase was a former Anoka municipal judge (1911-1916), deputy state Auditor (1916-1921), and state Auditor (1921-1931). He would later win election to the U.S. House (AL, 1933-1935) and the state Railroad and Warehouse Commission (1944-1948).
Burnquist was a former state Representative (HD 33, 1909-1913), Lieutenant Governor (1913-1915), and Governor (1915-1921) from St. Paul.
Holmberg was a farmer from Renville, former state Representative (HD 22, 1907-1915) and state Senator (SD 23, 1915-1919), and sitting Commissioner of Agriculture (1919-1931). He would later win election to the Minnesota Railroad and Warehouse Commission (1940-1951).
Lagerstedt was a teacher and farmer from Gibbon and state Representative (HD 15, 1923-1931).
Dehnel was a newspaper editor from Rochester and Progressive U.S. House nominee in the 2nd CD in 1914.
Klaveness was a physician and surgeon from St. Paul and former head of the Moderation League of Minnesota.
