This marked the first contest for Minnesota Secretary of State in which the Democratic Party did not field a nominee. Secretary of State Schmahl was reelected to a state record sixth term.
Charles (C.L.) Johnson was a resident of Anoka, Democratic-People's-Prohibition nominee for HD 35 in 1894, and Prohibition nominee for Secretary of State in 1912.
