A recount and election contest was conducted for the 4th seat won by Gross, who was seated at the start of the 25th Legislature on January 4, 1887. The House Committee on Elections found sixth place finisher Representative S.P. Snider received the fourth most votes (4,694), followed by Henry (H.G.) Merrill (4,688), and Gross (4,682). Snider was seated on January 29, 1887.
