Poehler was a resident and former Mayor of Henderson, former Sibley County Commissioner (1865-1868), former state Representative (HD 18, 1857-1859; HD 19, 1865-1866), former state Senator (SD 36, 1872-1874, 1876-1878), and former U.S. Representative (CD 02, 1879-1881).
Kniss was a bank president from Luverne.
