Auditor McIlrath was reelected to a fourth term.
Evans was a judge of probate of St. Cloud, former Mayor of St. Cloud, and former state Representative (HD 03, 1865-1866) and state Senator (SD 03, 1867-1868).
Randolph was a resident of Douglas County. C.C. Comee of Waseca was initially nominated by the Temperance Party. The Temperance Party was founded in 1868 and held its first convention in St. Paul on October 6, 1869. It would later be known as the Prohibition Party in the state.
