Ronning was an oil dealer from Boyd. Larson and Claggett were residents of Montevideo.

Slattengren contested the special election but House Special Committee found neither candidate violated the law and recommended Wingard be seated. Wingard, the former representative and incumbent for the 1964 election, was seated on April 20, 1965.
