Notes: McEwen was a former plumber. He was secretary and treasurer of the Minnesota Federation of Labor from 1896 to 1908. In 1908, Governor John A. Johnson appointed him State Oil Inspector and then State Labor Commissioner in 1909. He ran for Mayor of Duluth in 1913 and narrowly lost.
