Notes: Colfax ran for the 9th CD in 1851 but was narrowly defeated by Democratic incumbent Graham Fitch. Colfax won one term to the U.S. House as the nominee of the Indiana People's Party and five as a Republican. Colfax was Speaker of the U.S. House from 1863 to 1869. He passed away in at a train station in Mankato, Minnesota while traveling for speaking engagements.
