He received a Bronze Star, the Legion of Merit, the Croix de Guerre and the Legion d'Honneur for his service. Lodge served as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations (1953-1960), to South Vietnam (1963-1964, 1965-1967), and to West Germany (1968-1969).
