Notes: West moved to Mississippin in 1837 and was elected to the state legislature in 1847. West was appointed brigadier-general after Mississippi seceded from the Union in 1861. West was a Democratic candidate for the Confederate State of Mississippi in 1863 and placed second with 21.4 percent of the vote. He served as president of the Mississippi Central Railroad from 1864 to 1875.
